While it’s winter in the Netherlands, summer is in full swing in South America—perfect conditions for growing the bulbs for next years season. Ruud van der Hoeven, responsible for buying the best bulbs at Qualily, has been on the road since last Sunday, visiting our crops in Chile and Ecuador alongside colleagues from the Dutch lily industry.
Chile
Ruud visited bulb fields in Osorno, Los Ángeles, and Santiago. The season has been sunny, and the bulbs are looking strong. Visits to several companies confirmed that the crops are thriving.
Ecuador
Next stop: Ecuador, where they were warmly welcomed at several large flower farms, some spanning over 150 hectares. The altitude (2,700m), daytime temperatures of 20°C, and cool nights create ideal conditions for lilies—many of which are now growing for Mother’s Day. Ruud saw top-quality lilies being cultivated with precision and expertise.
